Eastern Region Division One League side African Mineral Ventures (AMV) has acquired the Manica Diamonds PSL franchise in a development set to reshape the club’s future.
According to close sources, the takeover is expected to be effected this weekend when Manica Diamonds face Triangle, marking the beginning of a new chapter under AMV’s control.
The move will see AMV, who have been competing in the lower division, step into the Premier Soccer League through the acquisition of the franchise, subject to the completion of all necessary processes. While full details of the agreement are yet to be made public, the deal is understood to include the transfer of the club’s top-flight status.
Manica Diamonds was owned and sponsored by the Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company (ZCDC), which established the team in 2017.
The franchise sale comes at a time the Gem Boys are struggling on and off the field. The Matare-based side has not paid their players since November and they currently sit at the bottom of the table with just a single point from seven games.
Meanwhile, it remains to be seen whether there will be changes to the technical team, playing squad, or club identity following the takeover.
More details are expected to emerge in the coming days as the transition unfolds.
