Just In : Kombi Explosion Kills 18
By A Correspondent – At least 18 people have reportedly died following a tragic kombi explosion along the Bulawayo–Beitbridge Road earlier today, according to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP).
In a brief statement, police confirmed that the fatal incident occurred between Chipangali and the Gwanda tollgate between 1300 hours and 1400 hours. The kombi is said to have burst into flames after an explosion, resulting in multiple fatalities at the scene.
Authorities indicated that the death toll is currently estimated at “approximately 18 people,” although the exact number is yet to be officially confirmed.
Emergency services responded to the scene, but the intensity of the fire is believed to have made rescue efforts extremely difficult.
The cause of the explosion has not yet been established.
“The ZRP reports the death of +/- 18 people when a kombi exploded into fire… More details will be released in due course,” the police said.
Investigations into the incident are underway, and further information is expected as authorities continue to assess the situation.
