CIO Agents Torment Opposition Activist Over WhatsApp Message “Insulting” Mnangagwa
By A Correspondent – Opposition campaigner Wilson Runánga is at the centre of a police case after being accused of circulating a WhatsApp message deemed offensive toward President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Authorities allege that Runánga used a group chat to question the President’s leadership and suggest he was holding onto power despite mounting criticism.
The same message is also said to have linked the controversial recalls of Members of Parliament associated with Sengezo Tshabangu to worsening hardships in the country.
While no official summons has yet been issued, the activist reportedly went into hiding over the Easter period after unidentified individuals visited his residence in Mpandawana searching for him.
The matter is recorded under police reference RRB 6776506, filed on March 28, 2026.
According to details contained in the report, the message attributed to Runánga read: “Are you aware that there are people insisting that Mnangagwa, despite failing to run the country, wants to cling to power? Are you aware that forcing Tshabangu to recall MPs contributed to the country’s continued suffering?”
As of now, Police Spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa has not issued any public comment regarding the case.
