Crocodile Found in Azambezi Hotel Room
By A Correspondent-Staff at A’Zambezi River Lodge were left shocked in the early hours of Saturday morning after a crocodile was discovered inside the hotel premises.
The reptile, believed to have come from the nearby Zambezi River, was spotted by employees who immediately alerted authorities.
The Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks) responded swiftly to the incident. Spokesperson Luckmore Safuli confirmed that the animal was safely captured without causing harm.
“The animal, identified as a Nile crocodile originating from the Zambezi River system, was safely immobilised and removed by trained personnel. It was later released back into the river. No injuries or property damage were reported,” said Safuli.
He explained that such incidents, while alarming, are not unusual in areas close to wildlife habitats.
“The lodge is located in a riverine environment along the Zambezi River, which supports a healthy crocodile population. Movement onto land is normal behaviour for crocodiles and is often linked to basking, nesting, or territorial activity,” he said.
ZimParks says it continues to work with hotels and lodges in wildlife areas to improve safety measures, monitoring systems, and public awareness.
Visitors and residents in the area have been urged to remain vigilant and follow safety guidelines when near rivers and other natural water bodies.
Authorities say the incident highlights the ongoing need to balance public safety with wildlife conservation in areas where humans and animals share the same environment.
