The Zimbabwe women’s national team have discovered their opponents in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games Women’s Football Tournament qualifiers.
The Mighty Warriors will face Malawi in the second round after receiving a bye in the first round following a draw held on Wednesday.
The tie will be played over two legs on a home-and-away basis, with the aggregate winner advancing to the next stage of the qualification campaign.
The second round games will be played from 5-13 October 2026.
The qualification pathway is expected to be highly competitive, with only two African nations set to secure places at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. This means the Mighty Warriors will need to navigate five knockout rounds to stand a chance of booking a spot at the global showpiece.
Zimbabwe will be aiming to replicate their historic achievement of qualifying for the 2016 Rio Olympics, which were held in Rio de Janeiro.
That remains the only time the Mighty Warriors have featured at the Olympic Games, marking a landmark moment in the country’s football history.
