Confirmed: Warriors discover dates for AFCON 2027 qualifying games as draw details are announced

Zimbabwe’s senior men’s national team, the Warriors, now have a clearer picture of their road to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) officially confirmed key dates for the qualifiers and draw.

The draw for the AFCON 2027 qualifiers will take place on 19 May 2026, setting the stage for Zimbabwe and 47 other nations to learn their opponents.

The qualifiers will be played across FIFA international windows later this year, with the group-stage matches scheduled in three blocks between September and October 2026. These fixtures will determine which teams secure places at the finals, where 24 nations will compete.

The Warriors will be among the teams entering directly into the group phase following the completion of the preliminary round earlier this year.

A total of 48 teams, including co-hosts Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, will take part in the qualifiers, although the three host nations are already guaranteed places at the finals.

The 48 teams will be drawn into 12 groups of four teams each. The top two teams in each group will qualify for the Final Tournament.

The tournament will run from 19 June to 17 July 2027, marking the first time in history that the competition will be jointly hosted by three countries.

Qualifiers dates:

Matchdays 1 and 2: 21 September to 6 October 2026
Matchdays 3 and 4: 9 to 17 November 2026
Matchdays 5 and 6: 22 to 30 March 2027
