ED Frees VP Chiwenga Hitman
By A Correspondent-President Emmerson Mnangagwa allegedly ordered the release of a military intelligence officer arrested on suspicion of involvement in a plot targeting Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, according to a highly placed security source.
Major Albert Tizwa, a Military Intelligence Officer attached to the Presidential Guard, was arrested in Newlands on Independence Day while allegedly in possession of an unregistered AK-47 rifle and large sums of cash reportedly traceable to business interests linked to Kudakwashe Tagwirei.
The source claims that, despite the gravity of the allegations, Mnangagwa personally intervened to secure Tizwa’s release.
More controversially, the source alleges that the President ordered that both the firearm and the seized الأموال be returnedto the officer.
“The weapon was handed back. The money was returned. And the suspect was released,” the source said. “This was not a procedural decision — it was a direct order from the highest office.”
Police Action Overridden
Before the alleged intervention, officers from the Zimbabwe Republic Police had reportedly moved to build a strong case against Tizwa.
According to the source, he faced eleven charges — five counts of assault and six counts of kidnapping — arising from what investigators believed to be organised and premeditated operations.
“These were not speculative accusations,” the source said. “They were supported by evidence gathered during the arrest and subsequent investigations.”
The source further indicated that senior police officials resisted pressure to drop the case.
“There was significant pressure to release him quietly, but officers proceeded with formal charges,” the source added.
Alleged Assassination Plot
According to the same source, intelligence gathered during the investigation suggested that Tizwa was part of a mission targeting Vice President Chiwenga and senior military figures, including General Sanyatwe.
While these claims could not be independently verified, the source insisted that the operation bore “all the hallmarks of a coordinated high-level security assignment.”
Serious Questions Raised
The alleged sequence of events — arrest, formal charging, and subsequent presidential intervention — raises serious constitutional and legal questions.
Legal experts note that the return of an unregistered firearm to a suspect, particularly one facing multiple violent charges, would represent a significant breach of standard legal procedures if confirmed.
“This is not a routine executive decision,” the source said. “It fundamentally undermines the rule of law and the independence of law enforcement institutions.”
Pattern of Escalation?
The source further linked the incident to a broader pattern of alleged political and security tensions within the state, citing previous incidents that have fuelled speculation of deepening factional संघर्ष within Zimbabwe’s leadership.
Among these are:
- The so-called “Norton truck” incident, allegedly intended to implicate Chiwenga in arms-related charges.
- A reported operation linked to Inkomo Barracks involving weapons allegedly intended to be staged as part of a coup narrative.
“These incidents, taken together, point to a sustained effort to destabilise or neutralise political rivals,” the source claimed.
No Official Comment
Efforts to obtain official comment from the Office of the President, the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, and the Zimbabwe Republic Police were unsuccessful at the time of publication.
A Test for Institutions
If substantiated, the allegations would represent one of the most serious tests yet of Zimbabwe’s constitutional order, particularly regarding the separation of powers and the independence of law enforcement agencies.
“This is bigger than one individual,” the source said. “It speaks to the integrity of the state itself.”
