Iran Cleared for World Cup Participation Amid U.S. Entry Restrictions
Sports Correspondent – The Iran national football team will be permitted to compete at this summer’s FIFA World Cup in the United States, but under tightened entry conditions imposed by U.S. authorities.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio cautioned that individuals with links to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps will be barred from entering the country, even if they are part of official delegations such as media personnel or team staff.
Meanwhile, former U.S. President Donald Trump indicated that players themselves should not be impacted by the restrictions, suggesting that athletes would still be able to participate in the tournament.
Iran’s involvement in the competition had been in doubt following tensions triggered by the February 28 strikes, which raised concerns over whether the team would be allowed to travel and compete on U.S. soil.
